Le rapport 2019 de Forrester sur le WAN d\u00e9fini par logiciel (SD-WAN), une sous-cat\u00e9gorie du SDN, indique que la technologie permet d'am\u00e9liorer les performances, d'optimiser la connectivit\u00e9 et d'assurer la fiabilit\u00e9 et la r\u00e9silience.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>Tout cela semble charmant, mais le bruit court que le SDN n'est pas tout \u00e0 fait le produit en vogue que tout le monde dit qu'il est. Son anciennet\u00e9 de 10 ans le place dans un coin d\u00e9cr\u00e9pit, avec d'autres technologies qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9pass\u00e9es par l'innovation et l'\u00e9volution.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>Gartner est l'un des d\u00e9tracteurs de la technologie. Vers la fin de l'ann\u00e9e 2019, Gartner a construit un cercueil autour de la technologie dite mourante en d\u00e9clarant ouvertement que le SDN \u00e9tait obsol\u00e8te. La raison ? Trop de battage m\u00e9diatique, trop de complexit\u00e9 et de nouvelles solutions bien plus faciles \u00e0 utiliser et capables de fournir ce que SDN ne peut pas faire.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>Pour Forrester, l'adoption du SDN n'est pas morte ou mourante, mais plut\u00f4t limit\u00e9e par le fait que la plupart des gens ne comprennent pas ce que c'est, ni comment cela fonctionne, et encore moins ce que le SD-WAN peut faire. Ce manque de compr\u00e9hension a eu un impact significatif sur l'adoption et le potentiel de la technologie. C'est aussi en partie la raison pour laquelle le SDN, un outil puissant dans l'\u00e9conomie du nuage, a \u00e9t\u00e9 principalement adopt\u00e9 par les grands noms comme Apple et Google, mais regard\u00e9 avec nervosit\u00e9 par l'homme de terrain le plus banal. Il a fait l'objet d'un grand battage m\u00e9diatique, mais les r\u00e9sultats ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mitig\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>\u00c0 l'instar d'un h\u00e9ros fantastique muscl\u00e9 d'une s\u00e9rie Netflix extr\u00eamement populaire, le SDN s'est magnifiquement \u00e9lev\u00e9 hors du creux de la d\u00e9sillusion de Gartner pour finir sur les pentes de l'illumination. La bande-son et les dragons sont de la partie : le SDN est mort.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>Ou est-ce le cas ? \u00c0 l'instar de SQL, l'ancien mastodonte grin\u00e7ant du code qui a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 passer le cap de la quarantaine, le SDN n'est pas aussi mort et obsol\u00e8te que ses d\u00e9tracteurs le croient. Il survit dans les r\u00e9seaux centralis\u00e9s, les solutions logicielles et les applications automatis\u00e9es qui modifient la fa\u00e7on dont les organisations tirent parti de l'architecture pour gagner en efficacit\u00e9 et en productivit\u00e9. Il n'est pas mort, il \u00e9volue. L'une des principales tendances qui stimulent actuellement le SDN est la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d'adopter des approches multiples pour la localisation du nuage hybride. Le SDN aide \u00e0 virtualiser l'infrastructure de r\u00e9seau de l'entreprise et reste un \u00e9l\u00e9ment cl\u00e9 pour faire passer le r\u00e9seau au niveau sup\u00e9rieur en termes d'automatisation et d'am\u00e9lioration de l'exp\u00e9rience de l'utilisateur.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>Pour certains, le SDN est la prochaine \u00e9volution technologique ; pour d'autres, il s'accroche \u00e0 la vie avec son dernier souffle, mais le juste milieu est que le SDN a encore beaucoup \u00e0 offrir \u00e0 l'organisation qui cherche \u00e0 r\u00e9duire les co\u00fbts, \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer les performances du r\u00e9seau et \u00e0 optimiser les syst\u00e8mes. La valeur r\u00e9elle ne r\u00e9side pas dans la technologie elle-m\u00eame, mais dans la mani\u00e8re dont elle est mise en \u0153uvre. Si elle est bien utilis\u00e9e, elle permettra d'obtenir les r\u00e9sultats escompt\u00e9s. Si elle est mise en \u0153uvre sans une compr\u00e9hension claire de son poids, de sa trame et de son potentiel, il en r\u00e9sultera une exp\u00e9rience creuse qui ne changera pas grand-chose \u00e0 l'activit\u00e9 de l'entreprise. Its 10-year age card is putting it in the decrepit corner, along with other technologies that have been overtaken by innovation and evolution.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Gartner is one of the technology\u2019s detractors. Towards the end of 2019, Gartner built a coffin around the so-called dying technology by openly stating that SDN was obsolete. The reason? Too much hype, too much complexity, and new solutions that are far easier to use and can deliver on what SDN cannot.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>For Forrester, SDN adoption isn\u2019t dead or dying, but, rather, limited by the fact that most people don\u2019t understand what it is, or how it works, and even fewer understand what SD-WAN can do. This lack of understanding has significantly impacted on the technology\u2019s uptake and potential. It\u2019s also partially the reason why SDN, a powerful tool in the cloud economy, has mostly been snapped up by the big guns like Apple and Google, but eyeballed nervously by the more mundane man on the ground. Its hype has been high, but the results have been mixed.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>A lot like a muscle-bound fantasy hero from an extremely popular Netflix series, SDN rose magnificently out of Gartner\u2019s Trough of Disillusionment only to meet its end on the Slopes of Enlightenment. Cue the soundtrack and the dragons: SDN is dead.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Or is it? Like SQL, the ancient creaking behemoth of code that has managed to totter into its 40s, SDN isn\u2019t quite as dead and obsolete as its detractors believe. It lives on in the centralised networks, software- driven solutions, and automated applications that are changing how organisations leverage architecture for efficiency and productivity. It\u2019s not dead, it\u2019s evolving. One of the biggest trends driving SDN at the moment is the need for multiple approaches to the location of hybrid cloud. SDN helps to virtualise the business networking infrastructure and is still a key in taking networking to the next level in terms of automation and improving user experiences.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>For some, SDN is the next evolution in technology; for others, it\u2019s clinging to life with its last gasping breath, but the realistic middle ground is that SDN still has plenty to offer the organisation that\u2019s looking to reduce costs, improve network performance and optimise systems. The real value is found not in the technology itself, but in the way it is implemented. Done right, it\u2019s going to get the business results. Done without a clear understanding of its weight, weft and potential will result in a hollow experience that does little to change the business.
